True Worship

All mankind descending from Adam, possess by their natural understanding, the knowledge of God’s existence and are required to worship God.  Romans 1:20 says, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.” True worship originates from a regenerate heart through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and must be done according to the truth of God’s Word.  In John 4:23-24 the Lord Jesus Christ declares that “true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

We believe the Biblical elements of a worship service include;

  1. God’s call to worship (Psalm 100:1-5);
  2. A greeting or salutation (II Corinthians 13:14);
  3. Pastoral prayer (I Timothy 2:1-2);
  4. The singing of Psalms and spiritual songs (Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16);
  5. The reading of the Scriptures (I Timothy 4:13);
  6. The receiving of tithes and offerings (I Corinthians 16:1-2);
  7. The expositional preaching of God’s Word, which is the primary element of the worship service (II Timothy 4:2);
  8. The receiving of the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper at times appropriate (Matthew 28:19-20, I Corinthians 11:26-28);
  9. And the closing of the worship service with a benediction and doxology (Numbers 6:22-26, Jude 24-25).
